New Evidence for Geomagnetically Trapped Anomalous Cosmic Rays
We report new observations of _> 15 MeV/nuc trapped heavy ions with Z_> 2, made on the polar-orbiting SAMPEX spacecraft in late 1992 and early 1993. A trapped population that includes He, N, O, and Ne is found to be located at L -2. We conclude that the observed N, O, and Ne ions are "anomalous" cosmic rays, trapped by the mechanism proposed by Blake and Friesen. While it is not expected that t...
متن کاملQIP with trapped electrons in vacuum
By means of static electric and magnetic fields one can construct scalable traps able to confine many single electrons in vacuum. The ground state and the first excited state of the trapped electron’s axial motion together with its spin states store the quantum bits. Selected radio wave or microwave pulses permit to perform any desired logic gate and to implement a faulttolerant quantum computer.
متن کاملLinear comparison of gyrokinetic codes with trapped electrons
Three codes that solve the gyrokinetic equation in toroidal geometry are compared in the linear limit for the growth rates and real frequencies of the ion temperature gradient (ITG) mode and the trapped electron mode (TEM). The three codes are the gyrokinetic toroidal code (GTC) and GT3D, both of which are radially-global particle-in-cell initial-value codes, and FULL, which is a radially-local...
متن کاملReactivity of Trapped and Accumulated Electrons in Titanium Dioxide Photocatalysis
Electrons, photogenerated in conduction bands (CB) and trapped in electron trap defects (Tids) in titanium dioxide (TiO2), play crucial roles in characteristic reductive reactions. This review summarizes the recent progress in the research on electron transfer in photo-excited TiO2. Particularly, the reactivity of electrons accumulated in CB and trapped at Tids on TiO2 is highlighted in the red...
متن کاملDynamics and reactivity of trapped electrons on supported ice crystallites.
The solvation dynamics and reactivity of localized excess electrons in aqueous environments have attracted great attention in many areas of physics, chemistry, and biology. This manifold attraction results from the importance of water as a solvent in nature as well as from the key role of low-energy electrons in many chemical reactions. One prominent example is the electron-induced dissociation...
